Al Ikhlas Mosque, The Oldest Mosque in Belitung, A Tourist Spot That is Steeped in History

Al Ikhlas Mosque in Sijuk Village, Sijuk Subdistrict of Belitung Regency. 

POSBELITUNG.CO, BELITUNG - Al Ikhlas Mosque is the oldest mosque in Belitung Regency.

The mosque which located in Jalan Penghulu Sijuk Subdistrict, has been built on 1817.

It means that the mosque is more than 205 years old.

Until now, Al Ikhlas Moque is still standing strong and often used as a worship place like any other mosque.

This oldest mosque consists of two connected buildings.

The first one is the main building sized 8 x 8 meters which is an old building

And the second is a new building which is located behind the main building.

Al Ikhlas Mosque is a simple mosque. The wall and the pillars was made from woods.

The shape of the roof shows the typical of building in Belitung.

Inside the mosque, there are four main pillars made from teruntum wood. This part was never changed until now.

Teruntum wood is a type of mangrove taken from Mengguru area, Sungai Padang Village.

The building of the Al-Ikhlas Mosque looks like a common Belitung's stilt house.

Beside four pillars and typical wooden stairs, this old mosque also has a unique mihrab with Chinese style's carving.

The carving shows that the mosque was build by the immigrant from China's mainland.

Acoording to the story, there used to be two brothers from China who built the place of worship here.
